Carrollton, Texas RV Repair shop, Blue Moon RV, has launched a one-of-a-kind Department of Labor apprentice program. The program aims to train, teach, and cultivate those interested in becoming a certified USRV Master technician. This program pairs in-depth hands-on exposure with classroom learning.
Apprenticeships are a way for the next generation of practitioners to gain the skills they need to become experts in a profession. Statistically, 94 percent of people who complete an apprenticeship retain employment and earn higher-than-average annual salaries. Blue Moon RV offers one of the only Department of Labor certified RV apprenticeship in the country.
Blue Moon RV created this apprenticeship after noticing a shortage of RV technicians. They also recognized that many other programs provide little to no hands-on experience. After years of creating the program, they found the right combination of paid work experience, classroom instruction, and a nationally recognized credentials.
The apprentice program formally started in November 2021. Apprentices have the freedom to go at their own pace with most apprentices advancing one level per year.
This program is the first of its kind to combine different elements of learning to best suit the apprentice. While most RV schools pace their curriculum through a matter of weeks, Blue Moon RV began this paid apprenticeship knowing they would be providing year’s worth of knowledge. The team strongly believes that a technician is made in the shop, and to succeed they must have a concrete system of measuring expertise other than simply time.
Apprentices are paired with a seasoned technician and are walked through a variety of action-oriented tasks that familiarize them with real-life situations.
