The risky decision of opening the second Salt City Barbershop location in Millcreek during the pandemic pays off big!
May 20, 2021 – Salt Lake City, UT – Salt City Barbershop celebrates success after taking a calculated risk of expansion during the pandemic opening the second location in Millcreek. Currently Rachel Bowman and Crystal Larsen are celebrating a solid win 6-months after opening and being close to max capacity.
The two partners opened their first Salt City Barbershop location in June of 2018, and quickly found success. The rise of their emerging empire has been credited largely due to creating the best experience possible for clients, while keeping costs reasonable (currently it is only $30 for a haircut). After achieving success with the initial Fort Union location plans were made to open a second location in Millcreek, however the pandemic struck right as the partners were preparing to open the second location.
The only female owned barbershop in the valley decided to push forward and open the new location in December 2020 despite the difficulties and additional risks. The decision has paid off handsomely and they are currently close to being maxed out in 6 months – almost entirely from word of mouth.
Co-founder Rachel Bowman states she thinks their reason for success has to do with how they go above and beyond to make clients feel special, “With an industry full of Instagram famous barbers, we focus on making you feel famous. We love helping our community and our intention is that every single person who sits in our chair feels safe, comfortable, seen and heard.”
Most barbershops in the region have struggled to maintain business since the beginning of the pandemic. Additional hardships were faced by many in the industry since few were able to take advantage of any government loans or bailouts.
Customers of Salt City Barbershop have been unusually ecstatic in their support, such as Donny McCurdy who said, “I was given the very best treatment sitting in a barber chair I’d ever received. A fantastic cut, an even better shave and a shampoo and style to die for.” Ms. Bowman states customer loyalty was a big reason they were able to thrive during these times.
