Business Collaboration is a Must during Very Difficult Times

New collaboration skills and strategies help small businesses cope better.

San Juan, PR – April 16, 2020 – Forming collaborative relationships is a must do step for entrepreneurs who want their business to survive, or hopefully even grow, during very difficult economic periods, such as now. Their biggest challenge has been how to find the needed support that can help raise their level of awareness of the collaboration building process (do’s and don’ts), as well as how to better engage potential collaborators who can help increase their production, marketing, and/or financial capabilities.

Business Collaboration Skills was created in February 2020, shortly after the Pandemic outbreak, to help address these needs by two means:

  • Prepare easy to follow collaboration-related planning tools, such as a 200 item Workbook/ Checklist of potential action items to minimize risks and maximize benefits, a Collaboration Training Slide Presentation, and a model Company Business Collaboration Manual.
  • Undertake a national campaign to encourage public and private sector business development organizations, Chambers of Commerce and other entities, charged with helping small businesses grow and contribute to the socio-economic growth of their communities, to provide more collaboration-related training support to entrepreneurs in their community. The above tools can be of great help to them and will facilitate their efforts and increase their impact.

Victor M Rivera, the founder of Business Collaboration Skills, is a former official at the U.S. Small Business Administration (District Director, Regional Administrator, and Senior Advocate, Office of the Chief Counsel for Advocacy), National Director of the Minority Business Development Agency/U.S. Department of Commerce, and head of the Latin America & Caribbean Bureau at the U.S. Agency for International Development (AID). In addition to his vast and valuable business development-related experience at the State, Regional, National and International level, he is very mission oriented and personally committed to promoting this important educational campaign that can help save many businesses, and spur more innovative collaborative/sharing initiatives.

Mr. Rivera was stimulated to launch this program after his coordinating  experiences last year with the “Americas Competitiveness Exchange (ACE) on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program” celebrated last year in Puerto Rico and convened by the Organization of American States (OAS), the U.S. Department of Commerce (EDA/ITA), and the U.S. Department of State, among others. The ACE program actively promotes collaborative economic development efforts between the public and private sector throughout the Americas.
