Local Golf Company Receives Generous Donation to Help Children Develop Life Skills

November 1, 2021 – It has often been said that children are the future, but how often have you heard this from your local mortgage company? GoPrime Mortgage has a long-standing mission of enriching its surrounding communities, and has now set its sights on providing growth and development opportunities to area youth. Upon learning the mission of First Tee — Triangle, GoPrime was deeply moved. First Tee illustrated that playing golf was more than just a game; it was a catalyst for the necessary development of valuable life skills. From learning sportsmanship such as looking someone in the eye and giving handshakes, to follow-through, discipline, and relationship growth, these capabilities serve to build children’s confidence, which in turn creates a stronger future for the community as a collective.

GoPrime Mortgage recently donated $25,000 in a matching gift that raised over $100,000 on October 20th to First Tee — Triangle at a neighborhood fundraising event. The combined gift will ensure that children will have their programs funded through the entire next season. The charity uses golf to teach core values and character, particularly to kids who may not have access to quality mentorship otherwise. Golf may be the hook, but resiliency and goal-setting are the byproducts of playing this game.

Much like golf courses, which vary in size, shape, and difficulty, First Tee recognizes that life follows this same set of rules. Using golf as the conduit, this charity’s unique program gives the hope of future generations of balanced adults. If you are interested in how you can be involved, First Tee is always looking for volunteer coaches. With the First Tee Coach program, they provide all training needed and assign volunteers based on where a volunteer’s experiences stand to serve the greatest impact with the children. First Tee — Triangle proudly serves 1600 youth per year at six golf course facilities across the Triangle, and at 14 local Wake County Elementary schools. Brandon Baker, President and CEO of First Tee — Triangle said, “They have never in 17 years turned away a child because of their inability to pay, so donations, like the one from GoPrime, really do help us continue to create environments where kids don’t have to worry about ever needing to pay.” Thanks to local community support, such as that of GoPrime and others, First Tee is rapidly expanding. They recently purchased their own facility and have plans to break ground on renovations in May 2022.
