Bar Harbor, Maine – July 14, 2023 – Robert and Robin Lawton, a husband and wife mystery writing team who publish under the pen name, Rob Lawton, are launching their new novel, Murder in Black and White. The story is set in 1942, while the entire world is at war, and New York City is key to the success of the allies. It was inspired by true stories that happened in and around Manhattan during the forties. Meet a homicide detective who has just avoided the electric chair, a wealthy socialite who is supporting the war effort, one wounded veteran at a time, and a mayor who is tackling police corruption. Add a pinch of glamour, a touch of banter, and heat until, in the words of Special Prosecutor, Thomas Dewey:

“New York City isn’t a melting pot. It’s a boiling pot.” 

After careers in chemistry and information technology, Robert and Robin decided to use their extensive corporate experience with boardroom intrigue for good, instead of evil, by turning murder into something that was fun again. They started as playwrights, creating entertainment that blended history with humor and mystery, for audiences on Mount Desert Island – home to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. They soon transitioned to novels with the first one set near the popular vacation spot they call home.

The first novel was well received, and readers clamored for more background about the glamorous couple from New York City who had come to Bar Harbor to solve a murder. The move to Manhattan then, is a prequel that is part romance about how the handsome homicide detective comes to fall in love with a wealthy socialite who aspires to be a Nancy Drew disciple, part murder mystery, and part history about events most Manhattanites would be surprised to learn.
