Coaster Cycles Begin Pilot with UVA

Electric Cargo Bike Will Replace Diesel Vehicle for Safer, Clean Campus Activities!

Charlottesville, VA – Coaster Cycles began a pilot with the University of Virginia (UVA) in August 2019 for an electric bicycle for on-campus activities. Coaster’s Transit 500 replaces a diesel grounds vehicle for safer and clean campus activities.  Recently the pilot was highlighted in the  Virginia Clean Cities Program.

“As a graduate of UVA, working with the University on a sustainability program offers a unique opportunity personally and professionally,” said Mike Culver, CMO of Coaster Cycles.  “I am particularly proud of the University’s commitment and leadership to eco-friendly practices.”

“For Coaster to play a small role to support these efforts is exciting, and I’m eager to see how the partnership continues to evolve.”

All Coasters are manufactured at the company’s 23,000 sq. ft. facility in Missoula, MT. The Coaster Transit 500 and other models offer an ideal last mile mobility solution. They can go in bike lanes, access areas cars cannot, and do not require a driver’s license. Additional features include: 24-Speed Drive Train, Heavy Duty Steel Frame, and E-Assist capability.

“Universities represent a major growth area for Coaster, from cargo and utility service to vendor and passenger programs,” said Ben Morris, founder and CEO of Coaster. “We are very thankful for UVA’s partnership and helping our company better understand different applications and needs from a Coaster user perspective,” said Morris.

UVA is a NAFA Sustainable Fleet accredited facility.
